Easy and Delicious Tomato Rice Recipe

Tomato Rice is a popular South Indian dish that is easy to make and bursting with flavor. It's a great way to use up leftover rice and can be served as a main dish or side dish. Here's an easy recipe for making Tomato Rice:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of Basmati Rice
  • 2 cups of Water
  • 2 medium-sized Tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 medium-sized Onion, chopped
  • 1-2 Green Chillies, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp of Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1/2 tsp of Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp of Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 tsp of Turmeric Powder
  • 1/4 tsp of Red Chilli Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander Leaves, chopped

Instructions:

  • Wash the Basmati Rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  • In a pan, heat some oil and add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
  • Add the chopped onions and green chillies, and sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  • Add the ginger garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt to taste. Mix well and cook until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  • Drain the water from the soaked rice and add it to the pan. Mix well and cook for a minute.
  • Add 2 cups of water and mix well. Bring it to a boil.
  • Lower the flame, cover the pan and let the rice cook until it is fully cooked and the water has been absorbed.
  • Once done, turn off the flame and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
