Jeera Rice | Cumin Rice (Restaurant Style Recipe)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati rice, washed and soaked for 30 minutes
  • 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 green cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 cloves
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups water
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions:

  • In a pot, heat ghee or oil over medium heat.
  • Add cumin seeds, bay leaf, cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, and cloves. Fry for a few seconds until the cumin seeds start to sizzle.
  • Add chopped onions and green chilies. Fry until the onions turn translucent.
  • Add the soaked rice and fry for 2-3 minutes until the rice turns opaque.
  • Add 2 cups of water and salt to taste. Stir well and bring to a boil.
  • Once the water starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid.
  • Cook for 15-20 minutes until the rice is fully cooked and all the water has been absorbed.
  • Turn off the heat and let the rice sit for 5 minutes.
  • Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with coriander leaves.
